Data Mining

Data Mining

For bespoke assurance needs, we offer a Data Mining audit using specialists data analysis software. This software allows us to analyse 100% of transactional data covering a number of years. From a multitude of sources and systems, as opposed to undertaking traditional sample based testing.

We can design the analysis to suit your specific needs, but typical analysis types include:

  • Data Matching - suppliers and employees bank account details, addresses, postcodes and telephone numbers.
  • Data Validation - VAT Numbers and National Insurance Numbers.
  • Benford's Law Analysis - Search for clusters of transactions below authorisation levels or unusual levels of transaction activity.
  • Completeness and Integrity - Checking for blanks or data mismatches between systems.
  • Duplicates - accounts, payments and other records.

The benefits of such reviews are:

  • It provides assurance on compliance to core controls.
  • Helps to reduce risk by identifying areas of weakness which can then be strengthened.
  • Enables you detect possible or actual fraud.
  • Minimising loss through duplicate payments.
  • Minimises the potential for fines through non-compliance with legal requirements.
  • Enhances profitability through ensuring all payments made to staff and suppliers are valid.
  • Gives peace of mind that controls are operating effectively and consistently over the peroid analysed.
