Beever and Struthers and Brabners pleased to have advised Cheetham Hill Construction Ltd (CHC) on its successful transition to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), a move that secures the firm’s independence, rewards its people, and honours its long-standing legacy.
Cheetham Hill Construction Ltd (CHC) is delighted to announce that from 1 August 2025, it will transition to an employee-owned business. In a move designed to secure the long-term future of the company and reward the loyalty of its workforce, CHC’s shares will now be held on behalf of its employees through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
This decision ensures that all current and future employees will benefit directly from the company’s ongoing success. It also recognises the long-standing ambition of Managing Director Howard Chamberlain, who has led the business for the last 59 years with vision and passion whilst acknowledging the team behind the company’s success. Howard will remain a Director of the business, whilst current Contracts Director Mike Goodier will assume the role of Managing Director.
“There has always been talk about what the future of CHC would look like when the time came for me to take a step back,” said Howard Chamberlain. “The reality is this, the business has never been about just one person and our success has always been a team effort — you can’t have a team of centre forwards. I’m proud that this move will give everyone a stake in our future and hopefully ensures CHC remains an independent, thriving business for many years to come.”
Formed almost 60 years ago, CHC is a well respected civil engineering and construction company based in Bury. The decision to become employee-owned reinforces the company’s commitment to its people and its strong reputation across the sector.
The business is currently providing civil engineering solutions throughout the North West and Yorkshire where they have secured work on numerous frameworks. CHC also offers plant hire throughout the country with its extensive fleet of over 100 Volvo and Caterpillar machine and is continually investing in its people and equipment for future growth.
Over the coming months, the CHC Board and management team will be engaging with employees across the business to explain what employee ownership means in practical terms. In the meantime, it will be business as usual.
This transition marks an exciting new chapter in CHC’s journey, one that builds on the past while also looking to the future.
