My passion for social mobility isn’t just about policy, it’s about real life, real experiences, and real opportunities.

I grew up on the outskirts of Manchester, in a family where university wasn’t the norm.  My parents, originally from Ireland, worked hard to build a life, but the traditional academic route wasn’t something that was expected or even necessarily an option for me at the time.

At 16, I stepped straight into work, knowing that university wasn’t financially viable or even considered.  But I didn’t let that limit me, instead, I trained within a firm that saw my potential and invested in my future – covering the cost of my degree in Graphic Design and Business Studies.  Without that support, my career wouldn’t have been possible.

And that’s why social mobility matters.

My 3 B’s…….

Because talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t – I know that skills, ambition, and drive don’t come with a price tag, but access to education and career opportunities too often do.

Because businesses can be the game-changer – My experience proves that firms willing to back and nurture talent—regardless of background—create stronger, more diverse, and more successful teams.

Because everyone no matter where you live or come from deserves a level playing field – As someone who grew up in Manchester, I understand the barriers that exist for young people who don’t have connections, financial security, or access to traditional pathways. And now, as a committee member I want to help break those barriers down.

This isn’t just a cause – it’s personal. I’ve seen first-hand what’s possible when the right opportunities are made available, and now I want to help others.
